There are two concepts we all struggle with, but try to achieve in our own ways: peace of mind and time.
Spending time to get peace of mind
The system we live in teaches us how to spend our time. But a lot of us end up waking up after a lot of time has passed, asking ourselves: what have we done?
We spend our time trying to get to peace of mind. A typical example is working to earn, to be able to survive in a world where your bank balance often decides how seriously you are taken. But a lot of time goes by, and a lot of the time we don’t really get peace of mind. Sometimes more of whatever we have been spending our time on results in less of it.
You can have everything and still not have peace of mind
Peace of mind is part of health, and it is very interesting. You may have everything in life and still not have it. Many people struggle to sleep, some carry guilt over from their past, and others are just trying to survive because they don’t see another way.
The candy we keep chasing
What I find funny, and this may change over time, is that one of the challenges we face as human beings is not being able to feel satisfied. Ambition is good, but we take it to the next level. We came with nothing and we go with nothing, but that doesn’t mean much until we wake up one day and realise what exactly we did with our lives so far.
Our peace of mind is often sacrificed to gain satisfaction, which means something different every time we get close to it. Our mind is like a kid following the candy you keep moving: busy chasing attraction and desire while our time goes and we miss everything else around us.
Gratitude and a good night’s sleep
By practising gratitude, and knowing that if five shops selling the same product are earning, there is room for yours too, you can focus more on peace of mind. Being able to sleep at night in peace is one of the biggest blessings today.
If you have peace of mind, think about what you want to sacrifice it for, and whether it is truly worth it.
If you don’t have it, think about what you are sacrificing for, and whether it is truly worth it.
If it is worth it, then it makes sense. If it is not, then we are hamsters on a wheel.
