With automation, more AI and a lot of bots in place, people have begun to appreciate the human touch. What clients want, more than ever, is peace of mind.
What I do for every new client
Whenever I get a new client, I give them a VIP treatment that they rarely get for their IT needs. Onboarding is not a handover for me; it is hands-on work.
- I add their products.
- I do the initial stock entry.
- I visit them every day for an hour or so, for a week or two, until they get the hang of things.
- I have even changed my buying habits: I now buy from my clients first, before other stores.
The aim: peace of mind
I want my clients to feel “as long as he is here, I am good.” That means safety and security, knowing there is someone who will sort things out if need be.
Taking my system is not just about a system. It’s an experience.
How to earn that peace of mind
Here is what I have learnt about earning it, if you build software or services for small businesses:
- Do the heavy set-up work for them.
- Stay until they are confident, not just until delivery.
- Be the one who sorts it out when something goes wrong.
Best service builds long-term client relationships
You get a system. You get a consultant. You get someone who takes your success as his own. Always give your best service: it is how long-term client relationships are built, and onboarding is part of the product.
Does it work? I hope so. How do you give your own clients peace of mind?
